Charan Sachar lived in India for a significant part of his life where his mother ran a boutique, designing clothes for brides and bridesmaids. The designs, colors, fabrics and embroidery he came across then have a strong impact on his work now.
In 2014, Charan took up knitting as a hobby and very soon the knit patterns started making an appearance into his work. Since then, he has been spinning, weaving and knitting a lot, one step further into the rabbit hole of fiber and every step inspires him.
He uses a combination of techniques such as wheel throwing, extrusions, slab constructions and alterations to create his forms. Each piece is then further decorated to give it the textured feel of embroidered and knitted fabric.

These new mugs are inspired by one of my recent sock yarn spinning projects. I spun this yarn on the Majacraft Aura wheel which is part of my Artist in Residence program with the fiberygoodness. Swipe through to see pictures of my spinning and socks.
I went through a few iterations on getting a good crisp definition on the stitches and I wanted to create the random color stripes that I saw with my sock yarn. The stripes are handpainted and even though I have categorized it in 4 colorways, there are going to be variations in intensity of colors and thickness of stripes in every mug, making each one unique.

After getting into knitting, my customers were asking me for yarn bowls. Even I knew I needed some nice yarn bowls.
I thought of the round bowl but really didn't find them too stable. So came up with this new oval design based off from my casseroles.
To keep with the look of knitting, these have knitted patterns just like my coffee mugs. The buttons add another level of beauty.
With a swirl cut out in opposite sides you can use them in many ways. Knitting with yarn outside and inside held together or even knitting two socks together. (TAAT socks)
They are large enough to hold a 100gm skein of yarn (worsted/fingering)
Dimensions: 7.5" x 5.5" x 3.5"

Darwaza meaning Door. I came across some cool pictures of doors. Striking colors and textures that I wanted to recreate it in fiber batts. This is one of them
Batt weighs 3.2 oz
Fiber content: Merino, mulberry silk, Angelina
Every effort has been made for accurate color representation of the fiber, but due to different screen settings, color may appear different.
For fibers I dye myself I make sure that the dye is completely exhausted. But due to addition of fibers like sari silk (not dyed by me), differences in water and soaps, there may be small amount of color bleeding with the first few washes.
Great for spinning, weaving, felting.

Quilts (View All)
I curated fabric scraps from my stash to represent the rich golds and deep reds seen in India. Creating a soothing gradient using only prints and then engineering the seaming to use every block as a whole was challenging, yet satisfactory.
Finished with no show facing and with a hanging sleeve that can be used to hang it on the wall (You would need a rod or a yardstick would work too).
Materials: Cotton with Cotton/poly batting
Care: Gentle vacuum to remove dust. Can also be washed on gentle cycle, tumble dry low. On receiving the quilt, the wrinkles/folds can be removed by steaming.
Dimensions: 54”x47”
This quilt was accepted at the Pacific Northwest Quilt and Fiber Arts Festival 2024
“Let’s Make Music” started off as playing with random blocks, placing on the design wall and hoping to discover something deep inside. Interestingly music was one of the art forms that the artist always wanted to study but never got around to it. Surprisingly musical instruments emerged and the individual blocks were seamed.

Starting with strip piecing colors intuitively, the making of this quilt took several turns, from being a simple strip quilt, to a Chevron design and then eventually the skyscrapers emerged. It was during the quilting process, it felt like each of these skyscrapers had their own journey reaching for the skies, some being precise, some struggling and some trying to be unique. I find this reflective of how individuals strive to reach for the skies.

I began making leaves using bias strips with my initial thought to cluster the leaves together. But during composition, I felt the leaves needed to breathe. Spacing them apart, I could see the leaves almost come to life, with new leaves emerging and making me turn a new leaf.
